Day 1 Concluded of Depleted Feature Spec Trailer filming…

The Hidden Veil of Leaves

The Hidden Veil of Leaves
The leafy canopies of Kentucky were explored for the right areas to shoot parts of the upcoming Depleted feature.

After a rough day in the wilds of the Bluegrass of Kentucky, the team finished their last shots near sundown. While there were some questionable times in the day where timing and insects made things difficult, the fact that they were prepared with light equipment (the 5D Mark II and Rebel t2i) meant that things finally started flowing smoothly in the latter part of the day. Director Jeremy Hanke is very excited about the footage that was acquired and looks forward to concluding shooting on Wednesday.

Day 419 power through week…

Filmmaker Jeremy Hanke will be in studio all this week at Oakwood Sound Design, working with Sound Designer John Howard and Score Composer David Singleton to finish Depleted: Day 419. Along the way, he’ll be video taping and audio taping different parts of the process for a behind-the-scenes retrospective on the DVD. Additionally, new podcasts of the process will be going up at different stages throughout the week!

Location scouting for the Depleted feature…

Location Scouting Is Hard Work
Location Scouting Is Hard Work
World of Depleted Contributor, Josh Lloyd, takes a break on a recent excursion to scout locations for the Depleted feature and spec trailer.

This past week, we caught up with Jeremy Hanke and Contributor Josh Lloyd as they were location scouting for the Depleted feature. In the midst of a crazy week of post audion Day 419, Hanke and his team will be shooting effects scenes for the Depleted feature with lead actress Kat Carney. For these shoots, it was necessary to match up locations properly a year in advance (almost to the day), as the feature will commence shooting in May of 2012. While a spec trailer could be made regardless of how well things tie in, the director stated that his goal is that every shot acquired this week will be able to be part of the final feature!

Lofty goals, but we look forward to seeing what comes up through it!

Coming Soon: Scripts of Depleted…

As many of you know, one of the groups that is involved in World of Depleted are filmmakers. Well, in the course of development, it’s been brought to the attention of the founders that some people who wish to get involved in the community might be interested in writing scripts, but not creating films out of these scripts. As such, World of Depleted will now be allowing contributors to publish scripts, which can be used for films, comic books, or any other elements that contributors might wish. Early scripts include Dark Day Tomorrow by Josh Lloyd and Blood of Martyrs by co-creator Jeremy Hanke. Hanke also hinted that the original pre-shooting script of Day 419 might make it online.

Fred Koskin to interview Canonized Contributor, Jojo Stratton…

It has now been officially announced that World of Depleted Contributor, Fred Koskin, will be interviewing Jojo Stratton about her recently canonized stories, her personal vision for her corner of Depleted, and what she’s been excited about in the future!  While an official date hasn’t been set for the interview, due to the fact that Viking Productions is closed for Passover next week, it’s a good bet that it’ll be at the end of the month!

Coming Soon: New Canonized Content: It’s None Of Your Business!

It’s been announced that a new story from Jojo Stratton has now been Canonized and will be released shortly.

Focusing on Jo and Minako, the two main protagonists from the first story, this one is set two months earlier in the American South! At 27 pages and 7000 words, this marks the longest contribution to date. When asked about the new contribution, founder Jeremy Hanke had this to say: “I think it’s very exciting to see fans like Jojo that are really embracing the black sandbox and exploring the dark world of Depleted. I personally found her to tale compelling and can’t wait to see the new content she brings to the table!”

World of Depleted Stories to be reprinted by Megaton…

Megaton Website

Megaton WebsiteThose of you who’ve been following World of Depleted news know that the Viking team has been working with post-apocalyptic expert, Megaton, to make World of Depleted more compelling and accessible. Known for his Post-Apocalyptic Forum and his massive connections with the post-apocalyptic underground, Megaton has decided that he will be reprinting some of World of Depleted’s Canonized tales in his official story section. World of Depleted contributors and fans are excited about this opportunity to share these tales with a larger community of post-apocalyptic fans!

So far it’s been announced that Jojo Stratton and Fred Koskin’s introductory tales will be reprinted, but it seems likely that any number of World of Depleted tales will show up there, as well.

Prize Packed Contributor Contests include sponsors Adobe, Peachpit, MWP, and others…

When the Contributor Challenges were first launched, Viking’s WoD team announced that some of them would have additional prizes attached to them. I’ve now heard that a number of sponsors are lining up to provide prizes for these including industry powerhouse Adobe, as well as Peachpit Press (a company that’s synonymous with training for Adobe products), Michael Weise Productions (a well known publisher that specializes in books for filmmakers), YURDigital, and others. Early rumors suggest a photography contest, a filmmaking contest, and a special effects contest. Nothing has been officially announced however. Considering that marketing lead, Sheri Candler, has been covering the huge SxSW film festival in Austin, my hunch is that an official announcement will be forthcoming once she gets back into the swing of things after her return.
