Most folks knew that the early Canon logos were created specifically placeholders until graphic designer, Craig McDaniel, got back from his honeymoon. However, before he left, he submitted a number of designs to founder Jeremy Hanke. According to my sources, two of them were used to sculpt the World of Depleted Contributors logo. The third was a mockup for the Canon symbol, which added an edgy graphic novel feel to the symbol. With a little adaptation, the new symbol was born. In keeping with Depleted mythology which uses QR codes to hide numerous secrets between Gavin, Jenna, and the mysterious attackers from the future, it was decided that the Canon logo for each creation would have a unique QR code beneath it which includes a lot of information about the work itself, including the PF (Post-Fall) Date, the location of the Story, and the World of Depleted page where more information can be found, amongst others.
When asked, Hanke stated that they were also in the process of creating an official intro video which will play at the beginning of all officially accepted Depleted content based on the new Canon symbol. Hanke explained that this will assist the talented filmmakers who are helping to craft this world by showing new viewers that these works are part of a larger world and encouraging them to get further emotionally connected to the series.
